Pitting Corrosion – Case Study

Metallurgical Asociates analysis of specialty stainless steel pipe produced in Sweden exhibited extensive chloride induced pitting corrosion. Intended for use in a US chemical processing plant, the pipe arrive in apparently intact shipping crates. MAI’s analysis identified chloride induced pitting corrosion resulting from exposure to sea water during shipping. The shipper’s insurance compensated our client for replacement pipe.
